Day Four – Sliced Bread
Most of us have heard the saying, “That’s the best thing since sliced bread!” What do you think is actually the best thing since sliced bread?
I’d have to agree with Sonya today, and say that the internet and all of the technological advancements surrounding it is actually one of the best things for this business.
99% of our bookings come via the internet. Our website is our first chance to show people what the House looks like but also welcome them and allow them to experience the atmosphere we have created here.
Our reviews on sites like Trip Advisor and Booking.com allow potential guests to read first hand feedback from our guests.
We provide wireless for our guests to allow them to connect with friends and family, check the tides if they are headed to 3 sisters or do some work.
I blog, take pictures using Instagram, and we use facebook. All amazing ways that we connect with people, maybe attract customers, hear feedback from our guests, and express ourselves.
There is another side to all of this connection. I recently have read amazing books like Thrive by Arianna Huffington and The Rushing Woman’s Syndrome by Doctor Libby who both talk about how the internet and technology can sometimes take over a good portion of our day, our minds and our time that could be better spent. They talk about the modern need to disconnect from technology and how by doing so, we can allow more peace into our lives, become more creative and how specifically woman can tap into our feminine sides for a more rounded, peaceful, happy life.
I’ve tried to limit my ‘computer’ time recently, don’t check email until a few hours after waking up (or minutes depending on the day,) don’t bring my phone when I walk Weston each day and try to read positive stories online versus always checking email for bookings or reading our reviews. I’m thinking of establishing office hours and garden hours, and baking hours….more face time versus screen time.
The internet is truly amazing, and allows us to connect with friends, family and customers. It has truly helped build this business from the ground up!
